The Joyce English Language School is now offering an English language teacher-training course (Certificate in English Language Teaching).
Course Aim: The aim of the course is to provide potential TEFL teachers with the skills and the knowledge to successfully teach English to foreign learners.
The 120-hour CELT course is an ACELS (The Advisory Council for English Language Schools) recognized course that aims to provide full competence in teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language.
The course, which is also recognized by the Irish Department of Education & Science enables you to teach English in the ACELS approved schools in Ireland.
The certificate is also widely recognized abroad (for example in the UK and Australia).
Price: 1100 euro
The dates for the courses for 2010 are: 12/02/2010 to 24/04/2010, 07/05/2010 to 10/07/2010, 23/07/2010 to 24/09/2010
Selection of candidates: Entry to the course.
The minimum age for entry onto the course is 20 years
A candidate must have a minimum Level 7 (an Ordinary Bachelor degree) following the guides set out by the Irish Qualifications Board

If you are in the final year of a degree course you can do the CELT course and will, providing you complete the CELT course successfully, receive your certification on receipt of proof of conferral.
Applicants who are non-native speakers of English:
If a candidate is a non-native speaker, then he/she should have an IELTS test result of 8, TOEFL result of 280 (Computer Test) or a B in CPE or an equivalent (C1 level in The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) before being considered for entry to the course. In the event of a candidate not holding certification in English he/she will be required to take the TIE examination or equivalent and pass it at C1 level before he/she can be awarded the CELT.
A candidate is only accepted onto the course when he/she demonstrates that they have the required competence in written and spoken English to be able to complete the course. This competence is measured in the oral interview with the Course Coordinator and by means of a written pre-course task which is given to prospective candidates.
The Course Coordinator has the final say on whether the candidate is accepted. Candidates should show enthusiasm for English Language Teaching. Other positive attributes are humour, genuine interest in students and an ability to multitask.
